Dahab

Dahab was originally a small Bedouin fishing village with an Oasis area which became popular in the late 1960's and early 70's as a spot on the hippy back packer trail. It was known as a relaxing hang out and soon was given the nick names 'Goa of the Red Sea' and the 'Koh Samui of Egypt'.

Dahab has grown a lot since those early tourist days, but it is still one of the most relaxing and beautiful towns on the Red Sea Riviera. It is still small enough to get around most of the town by foot or bicycle.

Top 10 Reason to Visit Dahab
  1. Enjoy the Red Sea from all angles - Dahab offers the widest range of watersports in Sinai, including wind and kite surfing as well as diving, free diving and snorkelling and much more.
  2. Magnificent views - from most parts of Dahab you get amazing views of the Mountains of Sinai and the Red Sea. The contrast in colours makes Dahab a perfect spot to enjoy sunrises, full moon rises and every few days you can watch the Red Sea actually turn red at sunset.
  3. Bedouin Culture - Dahab has a unique Bedouin history and culture. Find out about how they survived in the desert and experience the tasty food cooked on an open fire at a Bedouin Desert Dinner.
  4. Chill - Since Dahabs old hippy days some things havent changed, Dahab is a perfect place to stop and just watch the world go by while enjoying a nice sheesha (arabian water pipe) at a beach front cafe.
  5. Desert Adventures - Just a few kilometers out of Dahab and you are in the desert with the mountains as your friends and the sand to play in! Visit the huge sand dunes, climb Mount Sinai or visit Coloured Canyons and Oasis'es.
  6. The Blue Hole - Probably the most famous dive site in Sinai where the coral reef has formed a hole shape which actually goes to amazing depths just offshore. The blue hole can be dived (only trained technical divers can dive the blue hole properly. Otherwise PADI Advanced Divers can dive the blue hole to 30 meters. Snorkellers can also enjoy the reefs and marine life at the Blue Hole.
  7. The Village - Dahab is still a village in some parts, take a side road away from Assalah beach and see lazy camels and goats relaxing or just explore on foot. This is one of the best things about Dahab it is not to big. You can walk from one side of the main town area to the other in about 15 minutes (Mashraba to Eel Garden).
  8. Ras Abu Gallum - An amazing camel adventure to Ras Abu Gallum is a must do during your holiday. Just one and a half hours north along the coast from Dahab lies a little peaceful haven away from it all. A perfect spot to enjoy snorkeling, diving or bedouin culture, or to enjoy a romantic overnight stay Cool
  9. St Catherines & Nuweiba - Just over an hour away is the high Mountain town of St Catherines where you can explore lush valleys and as well as the famous Mount Sinai. Or stay in a beach hut in Nuweiba and relax with the locals.
  10. Fun - Dahab has a small but good selection of bars/clubs, kids clubs and varied events throughout the year. Listen to Radio Sharm Live regularly for information on Dahab events.
